Waiting on Wednesday: Once Was Lost

What: Once Was Lost, by Sara Zarr

When: October 1, 2009

Why: I've been waiting for a really good Christian book (that wasn't cheesy).. I've only read a couple, and Once Was Lost sounds like it will fit the bill :) Oh, and have you seen the cover? Gorgeous.

Summary from Amazon:
Samara Taylor used to believe in miracles. She used to believe in a lot of things. As a pastor's kid, it's hard not to buy in to the idea of the perfect family, a loving God, and amazing grace. But lately, Sam has a lot of reason to doubt. Her mother lands in rehab after a DUI and her father seems more interested in his congregation than his family. When a young girl in her small town is kidnapped, the local tragedy overlaps with Sam's personal one, and the already-worn thread of faith holding her together begins to unravel.
In her third novel, acclaimed author Sara Zarr examines the coexistence of affliction and hope, and what happens when everything you thought you believed---about God, about your family, about yourself---is transformed.

What are you waiting on?

  4. Have you read any of Melody Carlson's books? They are excellent. I have read all of the True Colors series. Also, A Friend at Midnight by Caroline Cooney? They are all Christian non-cheezy books.

  6. There's the Miracle Girls, too, that's good. That's the only one I know, though.

  7. I'm a little scared about the ending of this book. It says in the summary when everything you thought you believed---about God, about your family, about yourself---is transformed. I hope she still believes in God and his miracles! It sounds like she was pressured to believe in God ('It's hard not to buy in to the idea of a loving God') but if the family raised her right, it shouldn't seem that way.

This book is going to be interesting. *rubs chin* I've got to read what happens and how everything plays out. I'm adding it to my list! :)
